n this latest golf tips segment from the Asian Tour, India’s Rahil Gangjee demonstrates the importance of the ‘one-piece’ take-away in the swing for better consistency through a drill that you can conduct at the practice range.

In this drill, extend the tip of the golf club into your belly button and take an address position.
For the takeaway, you should feel the hands in front of your body and maintain the 90 degree angle that the golf club creates with your body from between the 4 o’clock to 8 o’clock positions.
By doing this drill, it helps create consistency in your ball striking.
This ensures that your hands are neither delayed nor too quick in the backswing and follow through.
By maintaining the hands position in front of the body, it allows the clubface to impact the ball at the same angle of address.
I commonly notice that amateur golfers tend to have the wrong method in their take-away during the back swing.
On most occasions, the hips have not opened up on the way back and this force the hands to get behind the body.
In the follow through, if the hands past the body at impact, it will likely cause you to hit the ball left.

rs like Jim Furyk may have an unorthodox golf swing but if you look closely at their hands at the 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock positions, you will notice that they are always in the correct position where the club and body maintain the 90 degree angle.
Happy golfing.
