Sentosa, Singapore, January 9: Just like his nickname ‘Diamond’, Phachara Khongwatmai is expected to sparkle in the new Asian Tour season.
At the age of 17, Phachara enjoyed a memorable 2016 season highlighted by four top-four results which helped him finish a career high of 14th place on the Order of Merit.
The fearless Thai capped a sensational three-week stretch last year when he finished tied fourth at the Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup in Japan, tied third at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters and ended his campaign at the BNI Indonesian Masters presented by Zurich in runner-up position.
After earning his Tour card through the Asian Development Tour (ADT), Phachara made full use of his playing opportunities and will go into the 2017 season as one of the rising stars in the game.
He also made his debut at The Open last year where he missed the halfway cut but the experience will be put to good use as he searches for a first victory on the Asian Tour.
If he continues to play the way he did in 2016, it will only be a matter of time before Phachara joins the illustrious list of Thai champions on the Asian Tour.
