Thongchai trials by one in Shenzhen

April 21: Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee returned to complete his remaining hole with a par to trail American leader Bubba Watson by one shot with his first round five-under-par 67 at the weather-delayed Shenzhen International on Friday.

The three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner was at five-under-par through 17 holes before play was suspended for the day. Storms in the area had earlier suspended play in the afternoon for close to two hours on Thursday.

Thongchai traded six birdies against one bogey to be among the six players bunched in second place at the Genzon Golf Club.

Australia’s Sam Brazel, who earned his maiden breakthrough in Hong Kong last year, posted a 71 to take a share of 33rd place while reigning Order of Merit winner Scott Hend together with 2015 merit winner David Lipsky struggled with their opening 73s.

Over at the Valero Texas Open, Korea’s Seungyul Noh posted a 68 to take a share of sixth place, two shots back of South African leader Branden Grace while India’s Anirban Lahiri is a further shot back in tied-19th after carding a 69.
