#OEM2017 Rd 4 What They Said

Crans Montana, September 10: Read what players are saying following the final round of the Omega European Masters on Sunday.

Matthew Fitzpatrick (Eng) – Fourth round 64 (-6), Total 266 (-14) -WINNER

It was absolutely nerve-wracking out there. I got off to a great start after the front nine and after the birdie on 10, I just felt like I was out there to compete and trying my best to win. It has been a long day.

It was a great final round. It was the lowest round of the week for me and it’s probably my lowest round in my competition here. It’s always nice to do it on the Sunday. It’s always very special.

I supposed no one wants to see Hend losing the play-off again but it’s just one of those things and I felt bad at it. I played really nicely to win today. I love this golf course. It’s fantastic. It really suits my game. My parents are here this week. It’s really nice for them to witness my win.

It’s incredibly great to have them out there with me in tournaments, especially so when it’s a tournament that you win. It’s fantastic.

I knew I had to go out there and shoot a low one at the start of the day where I was four back. I had missed out on the opportunity to win here two years ago. I birdied the second hole today and got off to a nice start. I dropped a shot on fifth but heading to the sixth, which is my favourite all week, I was playing really aggressively and got my second birdie of the day there. That sort of got my game going.

It was a fairly nervous back-nine. I dropped a shot on 17 but par the last to make the play-off. Heading into the play-off hole on 18, I thought I’ll give myself a chance. To achieve the win at the end is just amazing.

I played the 18th hole five times today, one to finish my third round this morning and we escaped with a par there. I played a little bit more aggressively the second time in my final round. I was delight with that as it gave us a chance to go into a play-off. I had a lucky bounce with the approach shot. It was just a case of hitting the fairways and the greens out there and if you get a nice number, you maybe take it with a nice tighter lie.

Scott hit it to five, six feet and I was saying to my caddy that the bogey on 17 in regulation will cost me the win. Unfortunately for Scott, he gave it away. I was fortunate to get the job done. I thought it was over when he hit it close. He played well all week.

I have got a supportive team, my coaches, managers, caddy, etc. I just want to become more organized as I know what I need to work on and what should I stick to. I think it’s definitely better for me moving forward.

Scott Hend (Aus) – Fourth round 68 (-2), Total 266 (-14)

I had the opportunity and I didn’t take it. It’s just what happens when you don’t take your opportunities. I hit a good bunker shot on the 18in regulation play to get into the play-off. I hit that shot when I came back to finish my third round this morning. It was just insane out of the bunker.

I would love to putt the same way I did in the play-off but it didn’t happen. I came back this morning to play the 14th hole of my third round and I made a nice eagle there. It was a good start to the day. I didn’t play as nicely in the afternoon but it is what it is. Fitzpatrick played great to win. He’s a good champion.

Fabrizio Zanotti (Par) – Fourth round 68 (-2), Total 269 (-11)

I enjoyed myself a lot this week. It has been a great week here. It’s good to be playing in the last group today. Yesterday on the back nine, I struggled a little but I managed to stay in contention for the final round.

I think I hit pretty solid today. I could probably be playing in the play-off if I can drop a few more putts. But overall, I am happy with my week. This should be my best result on this course ever. I have been here for nine to 10 times already so it’s definitely nice to finish top-three.

This week will give me a lot of confidence for the rest of the year. It’s good to be in contention again after some time. That’s some good positives to take for this week. I struggled a little after winning in Malaysia in February so it’s good to find back the good form again.

Tyrrell Hatton (Eng) – Fourth round 66 (-4), 269 (-11)

It was nice finish for me to get back up on the leaderboard. The opening nine holes have been pretty frustrating. I lost my hat a bit. I think I made it difficult for myself but I am happy with how I finished. It’s another good week for me in Crans.

My long game has been pretty good all week, probably until the final 10 holes. I don’t feel like I have holed enough putts this week and unfortunately, that’s what it has boiled down to. But there are still a lot of positives to take from this week.

I have been on a very bad run so it’s nice to be up there again. I am looking forward to my two weeks off now and hopefully build on this for a strong finish to the year. I really like it here. I was hoping for a good week which I have managed to do. Hopefully I can take this form into the rest of the season.

Mikko Ilonen (Fin) – Fourth round 64 (-6), Total 270 (-10)

I was just discussing with my caddy Jason on the 18th green that I could be home watching the golf now. I was really lucky to make the cut on the number and had a great weekend. I was playing well coming into the week. I was disappointed to be only at even-par after two rounds.

It’s nice to get 10-under over the weekend. I made four threes coming in. I had an eagle on 15 then then a par-birdie-birdie finish. It was a big finish. I needed that.

Thongchai Jaidee (Tha) – Fourth round 67 (-3), Total 272 (-8)

I didn’t play well yesterday. My driver wasn’t good. It was just too cold. But it’s alright. I still feel confident with my putting. I am happy to close with a 67 today. It has been a good week.

The conditions were much better today. It was really enjoyable playing out there today. I always like coming here to play this event. I know the course pretty well so to shoot eight-under here, I am very pleased.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat (Tha) – Fourth round 66 (-4), Total 273 (-7)

I had a very good start with four birdies in a row from 10th. I missed out on birdie chances on the two par-fives which were quite a pity. I had hit it right onto the middle of the fairways so that was disappointing. I wasn’t able to hole any putts towards the end of the round too.

I missed a lot of putts on the back nine. But overall, it’s still a good top-20 result for me. It’s signal for me to get back my good form. I was hitting on the target on my first four holes today. I holed a 25-footer birdie putt on 10 and it got my game going. I holed birdie putts from within 10 feet on the next three consecutive holes.

Overall, my ball striking is much better. I just had to work on my game around the greens. My chipping is still not good. I think it’s all about putting this week. I hit a lot of good shots this week. Today I just managed to drop more putts, compared to the last three rounds.

I have been making three birdies each starting from the first round. Today, I made five and dropped only one shot so I am happy.
