Vilamoura, Portugal, September 24: Thai prodigy Phachara Khongwatmai made his move by signing for a five-under-par 66 to tie in 12th position following the penultimate round of the Portugal Masters on Saturday.
The 18-year-old Thai fired six birdies against one bogey to trail leader Lucas Bjerregaard of Denmark by four shots on 10-under-par 203 total at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course.
Phachara is chasing for his first victory on the European Tour. His best result was a runner-up finish at the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth, a tri-sanctioned event by the Asian, European and PGA Tour of Australasia, earlier in Feburary.
Phachara became the youngest winner on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) when he won his first title at the age of 15 in 2015.
China’s Wu Ashun carded a 67 to sit in third place on 202 while Australian Wade Ormsby stayed a further five shots back in tied-40th position following a 69.
