Vilamoura, Portugal, September 23: Young Thai talent Phachara Khongwatmai made it safely into the weekend rounds after carding a second round three-under-par 68 to trail by seven shots at the Portugal Masters on Friday.
The 18-year-old Phachara marked his card with six birdies against three bogeys to trail leader Nino Bertasio of Italy in a share of 32nd place on five-under-par 137 total at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course.
China’s Wu Ashun posted a 70 to stay five shots off the pace in tied-14th position while Australian duo Wade Ormsby and Todd Sinnott were amongst those bunched in 44th place on 138 following respective rounds of 68 and 67.
Li Haotong of China returned with a 69 to merely make the halfway mark set at three-under-par 139.
Spaniard Carlos Pigem, Australians Sam Brazel and Richard Green, Thai star Kiradech Aphibarnrat, American Paul Peterson and Chinese Taipei’s Chan Shih-chang unfortunately missed the cut.
