October 8: Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand burst out of the blocks on the final day of the 2017 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship by turning in 31 at the Old Course. He looked set for his fourth top-10 finish on the European Tour this season after scoring three birdies and an eagle over his first nine holes, but the big-hitting Thai had to settle for a relatively modest two-under-par 70 in the end. Kiradech finished tied for 15th overall.
Kiradech, a three-time winner on the European Tour, opened with a 70 at the Kingsbarns Golf Links. He got himself into contention and even held the lead momentarily during round two when he carded a six-under-par 66 at the Old Course. At the end of Friday, he was just three shots behind joint leaders Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrell Hatton. Kiradech remained in the top-10 after finishing the third with a round one-under-par 71 in the third round.
The 2017 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship was won by England’s Hatton. The European Tour tournament was played over three courses – Old Course at St Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie and Kingsbarns Golf Links.
