October 16: Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand, came close to winning his fourth European Tour title at the Italian Open on Sunday.
The 28-year-old signed off with a six-under-par 65 to finish tied second with England’s Ross Fisher at the Golf Club Milano, Italy.
Tyrrell Hatton of England won the tournament by one shot over Fisher and Kiradech with his winning total score of 21-under-par 263.
Kiradech, the 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit champion, fired four consecutive birdies to start his final round, dropped a shot on the eighth hole, but recovered with a birdie on nine to make the turn in 32. The Thai was on track to close out the tournament after his birdies on holes 11,12 and 14.
However, a disappointing double bogey on hole 16 and another birdie on hole 17 put paid to all hopes of another grandstand finish.
Marcus Fraser of Australia finished with a commendable fifth position when he carded a final round 65 to finish just three shots off the lead.
Korean Wang Jeunghun took tied-21st place with his final round 67.
