Kiradech starts well in Turkey

November 3: Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat started his campaign promisingly with a five-under-par 66 to stay two back of the leaders at the Turkish Airlines Open on Thursday.

Nicolas Colsaerts, Joost Luiten and Haydn Porteous took the opening day honours by returning with matching 64s to set the early pace at the Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort.

Kiradech, the 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, had his card marred by a lone bogey on the par-four 17. But otherwise, he remains optimistic of the week ahead.

“I’m pleased with the way I’m playing, to shoot five under in the opening round, still a couple of shots behind. But still a lot of golf to go. Really comfortable with the way I’m swinging the last two or three months. Just keep looking forward to playing all the biggest events. The way I’m playing, it’s just really confident and I just want to keep going into the last events,” said Kiradech.

Asian Tour members Scott Hend, Jeunghun Wang and Sam Brazel were bunched in tied-50th place after they returned with matching 72s.
