November 17: Scott Hend of Australia carded an opening six-under-par 66 to tie in second place at the DP World Tour Championship on Thursday.
The nine-time Asian Tour winner trails the leader Patrick Reed of the United States by one shot in the final event of the Race to Dubai on the European Tour.
Hend turned in 34 and made a charge on the back nine with birdies on holes 10,11,12,14 and 15 before dropping a shot on the last hole.
Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat was tied in 16th place following a round of 69. The 28-year-old Thai, who has two top-five results this year, posted three birdies. The Thai is also fighting to secure a spot in Team Asia at the EurAsia Cup in Malaysia next year.
American David Lipsky (70) sits in tied-21st place followed by Korea’s Jeunghun Wang who is a shot back in 32nd position.
In the final stage of the European Tour Qualifying School held at Lumine Golf Club in Tarragona, Spain, Jazz Janewattananond was among 33 players who secured his Tour card.
The 21-year-old Thai carded a final round 69 with a dramatic eagle on the last hole, to come in tied-25th after six rounds, with a total of 17-under-par 415.
