Jakarta, December 4: Brandt Snedeker, an eight-time winner on the US PGA Tour, is the latest big-name player to be confirmed for the Indonesian Masters presented by Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Bank Mandiri, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) and Telkom Indonesia. The 36-year-old joins good friend Justin Rose from England in the US$750,000 tournament – to be played at Royale Jakarta Golf Club from December 14 to 17. For the first time the tournament is the season-ending flagship event on the Asian Tour and will determine who wins the Asian Tour Order of Merit title. The event is therefore expected to attract its strongest ever field.
Snedeker has been battling an injury for most of the season and was undergoing treatment for a lingering sternum injury that led to him missing the FedEx Cup playoffs and the year’s final two Majors. He sees the Indonesian Masters as the perfect tournament to help get his game back in shape. “The Indonesian Masters is a big event with a great reputation so when the opportunity arose to play there I eagerly accepted,” said the American.
“It is the season-ending event, with a great field and impressive list of past winners. I had the choice of a few events to play to close out the season but chose this one. It has a growing reputation and profile on the Asian Tour. “I am really fortunate to have this opportunity and I am also excited to play somewhere new and with my pal Justin (Rose).”
Snedeker is best known for winning the 2012 FedEx Cup with a victory in the season-ending Tour Championship. His most recent wins came last year in the Farmers Insurance Open on the US PGA Tour and the Fiji International on the PGA Tour of Australasia. He has also competed in two Ryder Cups, including playing for the Americans when they triumphed last year. And he has come close to claiming a Major on several occasions most notably when he tied for 3rd in the 2008 US Masters and the 2012 Open Championship. Ends.
