  SINGH FINISHES IN TIED-27TH

Vijay Singh

June 23: Asian Tour honorary member Vijay Singh of Fiji closed with a one-under-par 69 to emerge as the best Asian Tour performer together with fellow member Johan Edfor at the US Open on Monday.

Singh mixed his final scorecard with one eagle, four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey to end the year’s second Major with a four-day total of six-over-par 286 in tied-27th place.

Edfor, who won the Black Mountain Masters in March, added a 74 at the Bethpage Black course to end his US campaign in similar 286 like Singh while another Asian Tour honorary member K.J. Choi of Korea signed off with a 73 to take a share of 47th place on 292.

Unheralded American Lucas Glover, who had not won since 2005, completed a stunning upset by capturing the rain-hit 109th US Open by two strokes.

Phil Mickelson had to settle for his record fifth runner-up US Open finish, while world number one Tiger Woods was in tied-sixth, four shots behind Glover.

Ends.
