After winning three titles in his rookie professional season en route to lifting the Order of Merit title in Asia in 2000, Simon came good once again in 2006 when he produced a stunning performance to win the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open with a 20-under-par winning total. It was a welcome return to form for the Englishman, who had to endure a string of injuries over the past few years. He was also fifth in the BMW Asian Open, tied for 10th in the Volvo China Open and fourth in the Hero Honda Indian Open in 2006. Also won the KLM Open in the Netherlands, making him one of 10 players to win multiple titles in Europe that season. Finished 21st on the European Order of Merit. The Yorkshireman enjoyed an outstanding rookie season as a professional. He earned his card in Asia from Qualifying School in 2000 and went on to win three titles, only one of two players to do so in a season then, and the Order of Merit crown. He sweetened his year by securing his European Tour card from Qualifying School later that year. He finished tied ninth in the South African Open and Omega Hong Kong Open in 2001, joint fifth in the South African Open and Johnnie Walker Classic and equal fourth in the Omega European Masters in 2002. He fractured a finger in 2003 which curtailed his progress and broke a bone in his elbow in early 2004 while playing tennis. Came close to winning his first European Tour title at the co-sanctioned BMW Asian Open in May, leading from the first round and taking a six-shot lead into the final day. Settled for runner-up place behind Miguel Angel Jimenez.
