Danny is a history-maker for Malaysia. In 2010, he became the first player from his country to play in all four rounds at the British Open at St Andrews. His 2013 season was curtailed by a shoulder injury which required surgery and will be on a medical exemption in 2014. He enjoyed one of his best seasons in 2009 thanks to five top-20s. He was tied-seventh at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters and equal 11th in the Maybank Malaysian Open where he was the halfway leader. Danny had a single top-10 finish in 2011 at the ISPS Handa Singapore Classic. In the following year he recorded his first top-five result at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters since 2008. Danny played his way into golf annals by becoming the first Malaysian to win an Asian Tour event when he won the Taiwan Open in 2002. Another career high came in 2005 when he became only the second Malaysian after Iain Steel to qualify for the British Open although he missed the cut by two at St Andrews. After losing his Asian Tour card in 2007, he regained his form in 2008 by nailing four top-10s that included a runner-up finish at the Philippine Open. Qualified for his second British Open appearance in 2008 but missed the halfway cut. In 2007, Danny produced one top-10 at the penultimate event, the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open. It came a little too late as he finished outside the top-60 of Order of Merit. However, he returned to Qualifying School and finished inside the top-40 to regain his playing rights. In 2006, Danny posted two top-25 finishes at the Singapore Masters and Volkswagen Masters-China. Successfully kept his card in 2005 thanks to a fourth place finish in the Carlsberg Masters Vietnam. Also posted two other two top-10s, a sixth place finish in the Philippine Open and fifth in the Brunei Open where he was the halfway leader. In 2002, he won the Taiwan Open. He was seven shots off the pace heading into the final round but fired a closing 68 to pip overnight leader Hsieh Yu-shu and Lin Chie-hsiang. He played in the World Cup in 2000 and 2001. In 2003, he registered one top-10, a tied-fifth finish at the inaugural Sanya Open.
Danny picked up golf from his father, a businessman, when he started following him to the driving range and grew up adoring Jack Nicklaus. He enjoyed a fine amateur career, winning Malaysia’s amateur championship for three straight years before joining the pro ranks. Danny enjoys watching movies and also playing video games.
