2012 Reflections with Que

January 11: In this latest edition of Reflections, Angelo Que of the Philippines talks about his 2012 season which included a hot streak of nine straight cuts, learning to trust his game and predicting the next big star on the Asian Tour.

Can you reflect on your 2012 season?

I didn’t play as well as I played in previous years but keeping your card and finishing in the middle of the pack on the Order of Merit is not bad. There are many younger kids now and the competition is getting tougher.

What was the highlight for you?

The highlight for me was making nine straight cuts with three top-10s which pretty much sealed my card for this season.

And what was the low point?

When I made 11 at the par four 10th hole during the Ballantine’s Championship in Korea!

That would certainly be a shot which you would like to re-hit?

Yes, definitely! I would probably have played it safe and not try to be too adventurous. If I didn’t shoot that 11, I think I could have made the cut.

Which was your favourite tournament?

The Venetian Macau Open. I played well there and it was a relaxed week for me.

What did you learn about yourself in 2012?

Not to trust myself (laughs)! I think I can play better if I believe in myself. I need to start trusting in myself and my game.

What will you work on in the off season?

I’m going to lose weight. I’ll watch my diet again, lose some weight and fit in my clothes! I want to keep working on my game. It was inconsistent during the first half of the season and it was good in the second half. I want to keep it consistent all year long.

Who do you think is the next big star on the Asian Tour?

I think it could be Thitiphun Chuayprakong. He held his ground at the Thailand Golf Championship and he did well at the Venetian Macau Open as well. I expect him to shine in 2013.

What do you hope to achieve in 2013?

A win would be nice but I want try to spend as much time as I can with my family.
