Singapore, October 11: In this latest segment of 3 on 3, asiantour.com talks to Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant, India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar and Lu Wei-chih of Chinese Taipei about the 2014 EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM and reflections on their season so far.
What does the EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM and trying to make the inaugural team mean to you?
Thaworn Wiratchant (TW): It’s good to welcome another team event. It’s a different mindset when you play in such events as you’re not playing for yourself but for the team. I can say that proudly because we won the Dynasty Cup as a team. I always give my best in whatever tournaments I compete in and if I can make it into the team, I’ll adopt the same attitude.
Gaganjeet Bhullar (GB): The moment I heard about this new format, I’ve been really motivated to make it into the team. We’ve been watching the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup on television for a long time and this is much needed because guys from Asia are doing well all over the world and this is the right time for us to play against the Europeans.
Lu Wei-chih (LWC): It’s really good to see such a big event happening in Asia. I hope to see Chinese Taipei players in the Asian team. It would be a bonus if I can be part of it as well.
If you can play one more round of golf, where would it be and why?
TW: Thai Army Golf Club. That’s where I picked up the game and it holds lots of fond memories.
GB: Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore because that’s my favourite golf course.
LWC: The Serapong course at the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore because it’s very challenging.
How do you think your season has gone so far and what else do you want to achieve?
TW: It has been great so far. Although I haven’t been playing that much this season, I still managed to win my 16th title at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship. I’m happy with my progress so far and I just want to stay fit and healthy at my age.
GB: The highlight of my season was finishing second at the Avantha Masters and I’ve been feeling good about everything that has happened so far in my career. The other big achievement was receiving the Arjuna award from the President of India. It was like a dream come true as it’s the second highest award for an Indian sports person. I just want to continue this good form and see where it leads to.
LWC: The Yeangder Tournament Players Championship was my comeback event on the Asian Tour after a one year hiatus to recover from my brain tumour surgery. The recovery process has been rough but I’m glad to be back on the Asian Tour again. I tend to get tired easily when I’m out on the course, as compared to one year ago but I will try not to push myself so hard for now. I’m happy just to make the cut. I’ve got a few more events to play for the rest of the season. I’ll try my best and we will see how it goes.
Ends.
