Sentosa, Singapore, September 28: The Asian Tour and European Tour will co-sanction four tournaments and jointly partner with the PGA Tour of Australasia for another tri-sanctioned event in Perth in early 2016.
Following on from the announcement earlier today that the second edition of the EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM will take place from January 15 to 17, 2016, at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, in Malaysia, the Asian Tour and European Tour will join hands again from February 18 to 21 for the inaugural Maybank Championship Malaysia at Royal Selangor Golf Club.
The two events underline the Tours’ strong relationship following last month’s announcement of an innovative joint vision for the future of professional golf. The Asian Tour and European began its co-sanction programme in 1999.
The Asian Tour and The European Tour will also collaborate in March for the second staging of the True Thailand Classic (March 10 to 13) and Hero Indian Open (March 17 to 20).
The Asian Tour has also been invited to be a sanctioning partner of the Perth International, which returns from February 25 to 28 having last been played in 2014. It is the first time the event is being tri-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia, European Tour and Asian Tour.
Asian Tour CEO Mike Kerr said: “Our long-established partnership with The European Tour will see both Tours working together in four co-sanctioned events in early 2016, which will provide opportunities for our members to excel. We are also looking forward to competing in the Perth International for the first time and I would like to thank the PGA Tour of Australasia for extending an invitation for the Asian Tour to be a sanctioning partner of the event.”
Keith Waters, The European Tour’s Chief Operating Officer and Director of International Policy, said: “Having outlined our joint vision with the Asian Tour last month, the return of the EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM, plus three further co-sanctioned Race to Dubai events in Asia, reflects how closely we are already working together, and I would like to thank all of our Federation and co-sanctioning partners, sponsors and promoters for helping us to form such a strong opening to The 2016 Race to Dubai.”
The European Tour announced its early 2016 Schedule which is available on www.europeantour.com
