Miguel Tabuena (Phi) – Third Round 66 (-6), Total 202 (-14)
I have to thank God for keeping me calm. I knew it was tough and I knew people were making a charge. It helped a lot that I had already saved my Asian Tour card for 2016 earlier this year. I knew I was playing for the win.
I’m glad the Philippine Open is my first Asian Tour title. I played really well here before and I won on this course on the local circuit. I’m without words really. This win changes my schedule next year. I’m happy and glad with the victory.
I gave myself a goal at the start of the day which was to shoot a 66 or lower. There are a lot of birdie chances and people can make a move. I was one-under after the turn and I thought I lost some ground. I was two shots back after the turn and I knew I needed to go out with all guns blazing.
You have to take your defeats as a positive and remind yourself that it is part of the process. It definitely made me a stronger golfer mentally. To see my name on this trophy with so many legends is a dream come true.
tabuena in hole 1The Olympics? That sounds good! I was the second ranked Filipino on the Official World Golf Ranking before this week so hopefully that changes after this win.
Scott Barr (Aus) – Third Round 68 (-4), Total 203 (-13)
I couldn’t hole any putts for 14 holes. Once I did, it was game on and I holed my share. I did what I needed to do but it is a shame to finish one short. This week is a huge positive. I didn’t know what the other players were shooting.
I set very low expectations coming into the week but it is great that I’ve secured my card.
Chinnarat Phadungsil (Tha) – Third Round 67 (-5), Total 205 (-12)
It was an exciting week! There was so much pressure (laughs). I hit the ball very solid today. I made only one mistake today. My game was very good. I missed a few putts coming in because I was thinking too much. After 13 holes I knew I had a chance to win but the putts didn’t drop. It is okay because my goal was to make cut and get my Asian Tour card but this result will give me a better ranking on the Order of Merit!
Himmat Rai (Ind) – Third Round 63 (-9), Total 205 (-12)
I really found form towards the end of the season and I was doing the right things overall. My game finally came together. Vietnam (Ho Tram Open) was the turning point for me. I played really well and that gave me a lot to learn from. I’m going to learn my lessons this year and look at next year optimistically.
Yes, I’m slightly disappointed we don’t have another round to play but that’s all part of the game. I won’t worry too much about that.
I didn’t have a number in my mind. I was thinking of eliminating my errors in round one and two. I wanted to play percentage golf and hitting it near the hole. I putted aggressively and that made a difference today.
I can’t wait to get started for 2016. My game is there and I need to tighten up minor aspects of it and I’ll have a good 2016.
