Yangon, January 29: Asian Development Tour (ADT) graduate Casey O’Toole of the United States is excited to make a much-anticipated debut at the Leopalace21 Myanmar Open next week.
The 25-year-old won the 2015 ADT Order of Merit to earn playing rights on the 2016 Asian Tour season and hopes to hit the ground running at the US$750,000 event sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO).
He will be joined by Order of Merit champions Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines, India’s Arjun Atwal and Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant at the Royal Mingalardon Golf and Country Club from February 4 to 7.

Prayad Marksaeng of Thailand, who represented Team Asia at the EurAsia Cup in Malaysia two weeks ago, will also feature in the event alongside Miguel Tabuena of the Philippines, Rashid Khan of India, Malaysia’s Danny Chia and Singapore’s Mardan Mamat, all winners on the Asian Tour.
After playing in Asia for the past two years, O’Toole is excited to visit ‘The Golden Land’ for the first time while putting on a strong showing against the elite field.
“This is my first time going to Myanmar. I am very excited! I have heard a lot about the country and I am looking forward to going there and see what it’s like. I get excited every time I get to go play in a new country. It’s great to have the tournament return after a two-year absence,” said O’Toole.
He believes the experience of playing and winning on the ADT has prepared him ahead of the Leopalace21 Myanmar Open.
“I think it should be the same playing on the Asian Tour and on the ADT. My experiences from playing on the ADT will be of help. I just need to play my game as good as I can play. It’s going to be a stronger field but I just have to do what I am supposed to do. I can’t control anything else,” added O’Toole.
Also in the fray are Filipino legend Frankie Minoza, Thai veteran Boonchu Ruangkit, Chinese Taipei’s Lin Wen-tang and 16-year-old Phachara Khongwatmai of Thailand, who made headlines after securing a spot in The Open in July with a sixth place finish at the 2015 Thailand Golf Championship.
