June 6: In this latest edition of our Q&As with stars from the Asian Tour, Rikard Karlberg of Sweden talks about the most memorable moment in his career so far, his favourite female golfer as well as his role as a chef.
What’s the most memorable moment of your career so far?
It has to be when I sank my winning chip at the Indian Open at Delhi Golf Club in 2010! I hit it perfectly and I couldn’t believe the ball went in. It was such a relief for me back then.
What do you do to relax when you’re home?
I like trying out new stuff. I enjoy playing the guitar and I’m into swimming now.
What’s your favourite club in the bag?
I have to say it’s my three-iron. I really love my three-iron from the tee. It goes straight and far.
What’s your favourite movie?
The Shawshank Redemption.
What did you think of the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM?
I thought it was a great event. The sportsmanship was great and it was very different from what we usually see. The team spirits were great and there were many good players. It’s good to see a lot of spectators supporting the players on the golf course too. I think the organisers did a good job in trying to make it comparable to the Ryder Cup. It’s good not only for the Asian Tour but also for the golf development in Asia. It was very fun to see Asia and Europe square the game.
Who is your favourite female golfer?
I don’t follow female golfers much but I have to say my favourite one is Suzann Pettersen of Norway. She seems to have the power in her game.
What’s your favourite food on Tour?
I love Shabu Shabu (Japanese hotpot).
One sentence to describe the Asian Tour?
It is a very friendly Tour. The atmosphere is always great out here and everyone is nice to one another. It makes you feel relaxed.
What are your favourite sports apart from golf?
I’m into paddle tennis recently and I like it a lot. I swim a lot too.
What’s better for you? A hole in one or loads of birdies?
It depends on the prize for hole-in-one (laughs). If the prize is good, I will definitely go for the hole-in-one.
If you cook, what’s the best dish you can make?
I cook a lot when I’m at home with my fiancé. I enjoy cooking and I will usually cook for the two of us. I would say my best dish is the saffron salmon.
