Mauritius, May 10: In this week’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, we pick the top contenders who are likely to shine at the €1 million (approximately US$1.09 million) event staged at the Four Seasons Golf Club Mauritius at Anahita.
Miguel Tabuena (Phi)
With two top-five results in five appearances this season, Miguel hopes to continue his good form and narrow the gap on Order of Merit leader Marcus Fraser. The Filipino is making his debut appearance at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
OOM: 2nd
Soomin Lee of Korea Soomin Lee of Korea
Soomin Lee (Kor)
Lee enjoyed a superb rookie season on the Asian Tour in 2015 where he notched two top-three results, including one at the UBS Hong Kong Open. He endured the disappointment of throwing away a lead at the Maybank Championship Malaysia earlier in 2016 where he settled for joint second place but bounced back to win the Shenzhen International on the European Tour last month.
OOM: 3rd
Scott Hend (Aus)
Hend claimed his eighth Asian Tour title at the True Thailand Classic presented by Chang in March. He also enjoyed a top-five finish in the last edition of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. He will need a good showing again to boost his world rankings as he continues his chase for an Olympic berth in August.

Jeunghun Wang of Korea Jeunghun Wang of Korea
Jeunghun Wang (Kor)
Wang has enjoyed a great season on the Asian Tour so far where he secured four top-10s in seven starts. He secured a breakthrough victory on the European Tour in Morocco just last week where he entered through a sponsor’s invitation. Like his good friend Soomin Lee, the 20-year-old Korean is deemed as the next rising star of the game in Asia.
OOM: 6th
Mardan Mamat (Sin)
Mardan is a five-time winner on the Asian Tour. Mardan holds the honour of being Singapore’s first winner on the Asian Tour and is also the first player from his country to win a co-sanctioned tournament with Europe. He emerged as the best-placed Asian Tour player when he came in third at the inaugural AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open last year.
OOM: 30th
Li Haotong (Chn)
Li will make his debut appearance at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open after receiving a sponsor's invite. He secured a breakthrough win on home soil last month where he claimed his first European Tour title. Li shot into the global golfing spotlight last November when he finished tied-seventh at the US$8.5 million WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai.
