Asian Tour stars shine in Japan

September 23: Japan’s Daisuke Kataoka, China’s Liang Wen-chong and Kim Hyung-sung of Korea received a timely confidence boost ahead of this week’s Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open when they finished tied-fourth at the ANA Open in Hokkaido on Sunday.
The trio totaled matching 10-under-par 278s to finish five shots back of winner, Koumei Oda, who claimed his first title of the season and sixth of his career with a four-stroke victory at the Sapporo Golf Club’s Wattsu Course.
Kataoka, who is currently 24th on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, returned with a final round three-under-par 69 while Liang and Kim carded a 70 and 71 respectively at the ?110,000,000 Japan Golf Tour event.
Former Asian Tour member, Wu Ashun of China, finished two shots back on 280 to tie at 11th while Tetsuji Hiratsuka signed for a 70 to take a share of 18th place.
The Asian Tour will head to Osaka for the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open this week, an approximately US$1,480,000 event which is co-sanctioned with the Japan Golf Tour.
