Back 9 With Que

December 21: In this latest edition of Back 9, Angelo Que of the Philippines talks about his best moments on the Asian Tour, his favourite club in the bag and why he turned professional.

How do you describe yourself as a golfer?

People always say I’m jovial but I would like to think that I’m relaxed and laidback.

What’s your favourite club in the bag and why?

My eight iron because I can hit the ball to about 140 and 180 yards!

How do you relax when you are not playing golf?

I like to watch movies and hang out with the family. When I’m on Tour, I just watch anything I can on the television.

What motivated you to be a professional golfer?

I don’t know really because I’m starting to regret it (jokes). I’ve always enjoyed playing golf when I was young. I’m very calm when I’m on the golf course and playing golf is my life. It is nice to be doing something you like and making money.

What are the three things you need to bring with you when you travel?

My mobile phone, money and some movies in my laptop.

Who was your golfing idol when you were growing up?

Fred Couples and Tiger Woods. I like Couples because of the way he plays and Woods because of his achievements.

Ultimate goal in golf?

I want to be good in what I’m doing now.

How has the Asian Tour impacted your career?

The Asian Tour has done great things for me. This is where I play and this is where I made my name. When I turned professional, I thought I knew a lot until I played with some of the great players like Thaworn (Wiratchant) and Thongchai (Jaidee). I learned a lot from them. Thank you Asian Tour for giving me the chance because without any tournaments, I wouldn’t have a career.

Best professional moment so far?

There are two. The first is beating Thongchai at the 2004 Carlsberg Masters Vietnam and keeping my card for the first time. The second one is winning the 2008 Philippine Open which is my National Open.
