Mardan Mamat (Sin) First Round 66 (-5)
It was a long day so I’m very happy with the result. This golf course suits my game a lot. It isn’t a power golf course but more a thinking course. You have to keep the ball in play and hit it straight. This is the type of golf course which I like to play on. This is now one of my favourite golf courses now.
The rain delays were a bit frustrating but I had to make sure it didn’t spoil my momentum. I need to focus on what I’m supposed to do and move on.
I’m hitting the ball good and playing well from tee-to-green. I kept myself very steady and patient. I knew it will be a long day so I told myself to keep calm and steady. The key putt for today had to be on the 11th hole (15-foot birdie).
Note: There were two rain delays today. The first was from 7.43am to 8.40am and the second from 9.55am to 11.10am.

I hit a lot of fairways and greens. I birdied all the par fives and hit it solid. It feels good to get off to a get start and shoot under-par but we still have far to go. I’ll try to keep my head down and see how it goes.
We played in the rain last week (in Chinese Taipei on the Asian Development Tour) so I kind of got used to it. When you play in Asia, there will be weather delays so you have to deal with it.
On 17, I hit an eight-iron for my third shot for a tap-in birdie. That was good a good shot into the wind.
The experience has been great. I get to know a lot of people. Other than being away from the family, it has been good. I’ve been to India and now in Bangladesh and the people here are so kind. I was really looking forward to the experience. The course and people are great and I love the food!

It was tough out there especially with the delays and rain. I had to warm up twice but overall it was a good day. The rain delay didn’t help at all because I returned to three-putt on two holes (3 and 8) for bogeys!
I hit it well in the wind so I’m really happy with my score. I missed only one fairway today and kept it in play. That was the plan at the get-go. The golf course is tight and you need to be good off the tees. That’s something which I made sure I did and I was able to pull that off.
I’m 30 and turned professional about 10 years ago. I won on the PGTI last year. That was my maiden win. A lot of Indian boys are doing well especially Anirban Lahiri and that’s motivation for me. If one of us can do well, why not all of us?

I got off to a rough start with two bogeys in a row. We got a rain delay after that and I found a good thought and things turned around. During the delay I got to cool off and warm-up again. I got my putter working again during the delay and that helped.
I let a couple of putts hanging on the lip but I’m still happy because this is my first ever Asian Tour event.
Considering the start I had, I’m happy with how I finished. I had a bad tournament last week because I was struggling with my putter. I wasn’t feeling confident coming into this week but I seem to have the same flow similar to when I won in Sabah (on the Asian Development Tour).
The golf course is way better than what I thought it would be. I know they don’t have too many golf courses here. Golf is not part of their culture yet so I wasn’t expecting to come into a perfect golf course. This has exceeded my expectations.

I started well but I made too many mistakes. It was windy out there and to be honest, I’ve not played in this condition at Kurmitola before. But it is okay because I have good confidence and have three more days to go.
During the bad weather, I played really good but I couldn’t play well when the weather was better!
I won’t do anything differently. This is not an easy course. The rough is long and the key is to find fairways and greens. I’m not disappointed with my first round scores. I need to motivate myself to do better. There’s still a long way more to go.
I have a good chance to catch.
