Behind the scenes of #theplayerstour

Singapore, March 10: Mention the names Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Mardan Mamat, Prom Meesawat, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Angelo Que and Nicholas Fung and one would picture them swinging their clubs in the thick of action on the golf course.
But ‘working’ as a golf course or casual labourer, a television commentator or even a masseur? That would simply be hilarious.
In a series of newly released video promos by the Asian Tour, these light-hearted parodies, with the theme “The Players’ Tour” have been produced to showcase another side of Asian Tour players many would have never seen before.
But more importantly, the wonderful TV promos are part of a marketing campaign created to drive home the message that the Asian Tour is by the players and for the players .
Interest in the videos has since garnered a strong following on the Asian Tour’s social media platforms which include Facebook, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter since they were launched two weeks ago.
Singapore-based Australian Unho Park, who played the role of a no-nonsense task master in one of the videos, felt it was a refreshing change as it gave the Asian Tour professionals a different perspective while also conveying a corporate message.
“It was a good experience to be involved in the production but more importantly, we want to say that the players form the backbone of the Tour and it is a Tour that was born out of the need to meet the best interest of the players,” said Park, who is a member of the Tournament Players Committee (TPC).
Thailand’s Arnond Vongvanij, a one-time winner of the Asian Tour, also reveled in his role as a ‘big brother’ to his caddie, played by Spanish rookie, Carlos Pigem.
“All of us, whether we are veterans or rookies, are all friends. So when we look back at those videos, we just have a good laugh.  We’re like a big family with the interest of players coming first and that’s what it is all about ultimately,” said Arnond.
Now, would you fancy a round of pool with Que or getting your back rubbed by Kiradech?
