March 14: Gaganjeet Bhullar of India enjoyed a hot start at the Trophee Hassan II by opening with a five-under-par 67 on Thursday.
Bhullar, who is part of Team Asia who will face Team Europe at the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM later this month, registered eight birdies against one bogey and one double at the Golf du Palais Royal.
The five-time Asian Tour winner credited his hot irons where he found 14 greens in regulation play. He enters the second round five shot back from the leader Alejandro Canizares of Spain.
“I struck the ball really good. My short game was up to the mark and I made a lot of up and downs for birdies,” said Bhullar, who finished fifth on the 2013 Order of Merit.
“This golf course reminds me of a few golf courses in India. We have been practising on this sort of surface in India. I’m playing good but now it is sort of a test of patience for me. I’ve been coming close to being in contention so I just need to show some patience on the golf course,” he added.
Wade Ormsby of Australia, who won his first professional career on the Asian Tour last season, was a further shot back in tied 10th place while Shiv Kapur of India posted a 70 for tied 26th.
