January 19: Gaganjeet Bhullar of India was red-hot in the third round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship when he shot a scorching six-under-par 66 on Saturday.
His error free round, sprinkled with six birdies, put him within two shots of the leader Craig Lee of Scotland at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
Bhullar’s three-day total of 10-under-par 206 was matched by Phil Mickelson of the United States, who carded a 63, and they will be paired in the final group alongside Lee.
“I hit about 16 greens in regulation. I hit the ball good off the tees. I made two or three par saves and that kept me going. I was hitting it close to the flag and giving myself a lot of opportunities,” said Bhullar.
“I’ve been playing really good for the last two years I’ve enjoyed a lot of success on the Asian Tour and I’ll try to give myself a 100% in the final round. I got to get used to that conditions.”
Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, a three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, also put himself in the thick of things with a 68, to lie four shots off the pace on 208.
