Hua Hin, Thailand, January 27: The award-winning Black Mountain Golf Club is ready to welcome the best players from the Asian Tour and European Tour when the inaugural Thailand Classic presented by Black Mountain gets underway next month.
The Thailand Classic is the first tournament in the Kingdom to be co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour in eight years and will see top players from both continents making their way to the award-winning Black Mountain Golf Club from February 12-15.
Boasting a prize fund of US$2 million, the Thailand Classic has become even more lucrative as an exclusive luxury town house at Black Mountain, valued at 12 million Thai baht awaits the player who scores an ace at the par-three hole 14 during the event.
The five-star property, which was opened in 2007, has undergone extensive makeover where the rough is now tougher and greens made firmer and faster for its Thai showpiece.
“The golf course is in the best condition it has ever been since opening in April 2007. With mild weather conditions over the dry season, we have had perfect preparation. Players and spectators will see Black Mountain at its very best.” said Mr. Harald Elisson, Managing Director of Black Mountain Golf Club.
The 7,350 yards, par-72 course at the Black Mountain Golf Club is slated to host three instalments of the Thailand Classic where a special “Pride of Thailand’’ brazed trophy awaits the winner.
Designed by Thailand’s acclaimed Chang Sip Mu craftsmen, the ‘Pride of Thailand’ trophy features a combination of traditional Thai crafts and a contemporary design.
Boonperm Intanapasat, CEO of Muse Group Bangkok said, “We’re looking forward to creating history for golf in Thailand with this inaugural Thailand Classic.
“Not only is there a big amount of prize money for the champion, stylish ‘Pride of Thailand’ trophy, but also a 12 million luxury town house at Black Mountain that awaits anyone who has a hole-in-one on the 14th hole.
“We are hoping this huge award will make the game more interesting and exciting. We also hope that one of the players can secure the award and wow the crowds with a hole-in-one.”
Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee, a three-time Asian Tour number one and ranked 38th in the world, will spearhead the local charge alongside leading compatriots Thaworn Wiratchant, Prayad Marksaeng, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Prom Meesawat and Chapchai Nirat. The six Thai players have a combined 47 Asian Tour victories.
Newly-crowned Order of Merit champion David Lipsky of the United States will also be part of the strong Asian Tour line-up that includes India’s Anirban Lahiri, Singapore’s Mardan Mamat, Bangladeshi Siddikur Rahman and Filipino Angelo Que.
Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts along with England’s Tommy Fleetwood and David Howell will also feature alongside Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez and Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn at the Black Mountain Golf Club.

About Black Mountain Golf Club, Hua Hin
A challenging yet highly enjoyable design, the course enjoys sweeping vistas from almost every hole, and tour-standard conditions. Since opening in 2007, Black Mountain has hosted three Asian Tour events, including the 2014 King’s Cup, and has won a string of international awards. Black Mountain is the only course in Thailand ever to be named in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses (outside the US), and also to receive the accolade “Best Course in Thailand” for the past FOUR years in a row. Also in December 2014, Asian Golf Monthly Magazine voted Black Mountain as the "Best Course in Asia Pacific" and "Best Championship Course in Asia Pacific". Additionally, the magnificent Par 3 sister course may be the best you will ever play. Set in a natural valley, there is water on every hole, requiring precise shot-making and concentration, just as you need on the full length course! Outstanding services, the most modern carts and electric buggies available, first class practice facilities and a modern clubhouse overlooking the course make Black Mountain a golf experience you will long remember. Combine all of the above with a world class restaurant and a 5-star Spa, then you have the complete package for the perfect golfing destination.
