Carballo rises to the top at the TAKE Solutions Masters

Bengaluru, August 10: Asian Tour newcomer Miguel Carballo of Argentina took advantage of a solid front-nine to sign for a second straight five-under-par 66, grabbing the halfway clubhouse lead by two shots at the TAKE Solutions Masters on Friday.

The 39-year-old Carballo, who started from the 10th hole, fired an eagle and three birdies to turn in 32 before trading a birdie against a bogey on his way home for a two-day total of 10-under-par 132 at the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) Golf Course.

Indian hotshot S.S.P. Chawrasia, a six-time Asian Tour winner, rode on a hot putter to sign for a solid 65. He trails Carballo by two shots at the US$350,000 Asian Tour event.

Young Thai talent Suradit Yongcharoenchai, who enjoyed a seventh place finish last year, battled to a 69 to stay three shots off the pace at the TAKE Solutions Masters, which is celebrating its second edition on the Asian Tour this week.

“This golf course is similar to what I used to play on the PGA Tour before. It’s in great condition, from the fairways to the bunkers and the rough. I am very happy to play well in the first two rounds. Looking forward to tomorrow,” said Carballo, a former player on the PGA Tour.

Since making the mark in his first attempt at the Asian Tour Qualifying School in January, Carballo has notched five top-10s on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) and a tied-fifth finish on the region’s premier Tour at the Asia-Pacific Classic in China in May.
