Carefree Que targets HK comeback

Hong Kong, October 7: Philippines’ Angelo Que hopes for a second chance at glory when the UBS Hong Kong Open tees off at the Hong Kong Golf Club in a fortnight.
The laid-back Filipino, who lives by the mantra that ‘life is short’, was denied his fourth Asian Tour win in Fanling when he was pipped to the title by Australia’s Scott Hend at the first play-off hole.
A year on, the father-of-two is hoping for better fortunes as he makes his return to the Hong Kong showpiece, which welcomes the return of UBS as its title sponsor for the first time since 2012 and also an increase in prize purse to US$2 million.
“Losing to Scott was not as bad as it seems as he’s a good player. And for me to finish second was not bad either as I ended the year in sixth place on the Order of Merit last year,” said Que.
While Que still remembers that play-off defeat where his poor chip from the greenside resulted in a costly bogey, the 36-year-old is not keen to dwell on the past but instead looks ahead to his next title challenge with renewed hope.
“I’ve no regrets for whatever decisions I make. I would just move on, learn for it and that’s basically my mantra in life. There’s nothing you can do but what’s more important is what you can do after.
“It’s too painful if you continue to live in the past. I just got to be happy and enjoy whatever time you have. Life’s too short for any regrets,” said Que.
Outside the course, Que is also looking forward to returning to Hong Kong and soak in the party-like atmosphere that has been synonymous with Hong Kong’s oldest professional sporting event.
“I’ve always loved the ambience of the UBS Hong Kong Open, the atmosphere of the tournament. I feel so at home there, I know where to go and what to expect. The food’s great and it’s a great event. It’s one of those tournaments that people look forward to, especially me,” said Que.
Que will join Hend together with a host of Asian Tour heavyweights including Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee and Anirban Lahiri of India at UBS Hong Kong Open.
They will face off against the likes of Dustin Johnson of the United States and England’s Justin Rose, both ranked in the world’s top-10 and also Ryder Cup stars Victor Dubuisson of France, Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland and American Patrick Reed.
Four-time Hong Kong Open champion and fan favourite Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain has also confirmed his appearance.
The UBS Hong Kong Open is supported by the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Mega Events Fund and sanctioned by the Asian Tour, European Tour and Hong Kong Golf Association.
With the funding support from the Mega Events Fund, the UBS Hong Kong Open has successfully secured the participation of a number of world’s leading golf players to play in this mega event. Their presence will significantly boost the profile of the tournament as a major sporting event. The star names will not only support the promotion of this event, but will also help promote Hong Kong as a premier travel destination in the region and the local participation.
Past champions include Peter Thomson, Greg Norman, Ian Woosnam, Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson, José María Olazábal, Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Miguel Angel Jiménez and Colin Montgomerie.
The UBS Hong Kong Open will take place at the Hong Kong Golf Club from October 22-25, 2015.
