'I can do it' was what I will keep telling myself whenever I contend in tournaments, especially during play-offs.
Things had started to change for me since I won my first Asian Development Tour (ADT) title in Sabah last year. It kind of set me in the right mindset whenever I play in tournaments. It was different from winning on the domestic circuit. It’s like another level up and I felt that my golf game has improved. That win in Sabah has given me a lot of confidence in my game.
The quality of players on the ADT are very strong too. It was not any easier winning on the ADT, as compared to the Asian Tour. There are a lot of good players on the ADT too. Although the tournaments are of smaller scale, it is still a good platform for players to advance their careers.
I broke into top 200 on the world rankings after winning the Taifong Open in July. It was a great feeling. I didn’t expect my world rankings to improve so much just from playing on the ADT. Being the highest ranked player from Chinese Taipei now, I must say it came with pressure but it is good pressure. It motivates me to work even harder to maintain as the leading Chinese Taipei player so as to qualify for the Olympics in 2016. It would be an honour if I can represent my country in the Olympics.
It’s been a really great year for me. I didn’t expect myself to do so well on the ADT this year. This week is an important week for me and I want to keep the trophy on home soil so as to repay my boss Emmet Hsu, who is sponsoring the event. I have to admit that there is some pressure playing this week, having finished as the top Chinese Taipei player last year and obtaining a series of good results so far this season. However, I will try not to think about it and just focus on my game. I am confident to playing well this week so hopefully I can extend my good form to this tournament.
