Zhengzhou, China, September 29: Asian Development Tour (ADT) Order of Merit leader Chan Shih-chang of Chinese Taipei claimed his best result on the PGA Tour China Series when he closed with a four-over-par 76 to take second place at the Jianye Tianzhu Henan Open on Sunday.
Tied for lead with winner Li Hao-tong of China heading into the final round, Chan was blown off course by the weather elements as he marked his card with one birdie against five bogeys for a five-under-par 283 total, finishing eight shots back of Li at the St. Andrews Zhengzhou Golf Club.
“The golf course played a lot longer today, which was a great disadvantage for me. I was unable to give myself opportunities to score especially playing under such windy and rainy conditions. After the bogey on the ninth hole, I was three shots back and I kind of knew it would be an uphill battle,” said the 28-year-old Chan.
Hung Chien-yao, also of Chinese Taipei, ended his campaign in eighth position following a 76 while Korean American Anthony Kang finished one shot back to share ninth place with five other players including China’s Hu Mu, who also returned with a 76.
Chan will return onto the Asian Tour for the US$650,000 Mercuries Taiwan Masters this week. He has claimed a total of six professional victories this year, including three on the ADT which earned him playing rights on the region’s premier Tour for the second half of the season.
