China's Hu targets solid result in Indonesia

Jakarta, November 27: China’s Hu Mu will aim to secure an Asian Tour card for next year with a solid result at the US$750,000 Indonesia Open which starts on Thursday.
Hu is confident of producing a commendable performance at the Pantai Indah Kapuk course at the Damai Indah Golf where he will be joined by countrymen Liang Wen-chong, who won his third Asian Tour title two weeks ago, and veteran Zhang Liang-wei.
Talented duo Hung Chien-yao of Chinese Taipei and Nicholas Fung of Malaysia, ranked 67th and 88th on the Order of Merit respectively, will also be in the elite field where they will aim to boost their rankings on the region’s premier Tour which celebrates its milestone 10th season in 2013.
The top-60 players on the final Asian Tour Order of Merit will earn full playing rights on the 2014 Asian Tour season.
The 24-year-old Hu currently lies on the bubble where he is ranked 59th on the Order of Merit and knows he needs to produce another superb performance that can match or better his fourth place result at the Chiangmai Golf Classic in March.
“I’ve played this course before so I am pretty familiar with it. I hope to finish inside the top-10. Hopefully a good finish this week will strengthen my position on the Order of Merit,” said Hu.
“I’m finally starting to hit some good shots and my swing is getting better. My current form is good. I played badly in Chinese Taipei and Macau but I’m getting some confidence with my game now,” added the Chinese.
Hung has enjoyed an encouraging rookie season so far where he has four top-20 finishes on the Asian Tour. He also won his first Asian Development Tour (ADT) title on home soil last month.
“I’ve been playing very consistently and I am pretty confident with my game right now. I’ve a few tournaments coming up so hopefully I can keep up the good form. As a rookie on the Asian Tour, I think my first season has been pretty good although I expected myself to do better,” said the 21-year-old Hung.
“Obviously, my main aim for this year is to get into top 60 on the Order of Merit and keep my Asian Tour card for 2014. I think I still have some chances as I’m currently ranked 67th and I’ve got a few more tournaments to go. I’ll continue to do my best and hopefully we can see some good results,” added Hung.
Malaysia’s highest ranked golfer, Fung, who currently leads the ADT Order of Merit, has set himself a reachable goal of obtaining an Asian Tour card for 2014 by finishing inside the top-60 on the Order of Merit.
“Finishing top five in Manila two weeks ago gave me a lot of confidence. I believe I still have a chance to get inside top-60 if I finish well this week,” said the 23-year-old Fung, who won his fourth title on the local tour last week.
The 39th edition of Indonesia’s national championship, which has a rich and illustrious history dating back to its first edition in 1974, is the nation’s oldest golf tournament.
