Kuala Lumpur, April 19: Asian Tour honorary member K.J. Choi of Korea took advantage of an early tee time to shoot a four-under-par 67 for the second round clubhouse lead at the RBC Heritage on Friday.
Choi fired six birdies for a one-shot lead over Robert Allenby of Australia before heavy rain forced play to be suspended for the day at the Harbour Town Golf Links.
The Korean star’s scorecard included six birdies highlighted by a 24-footer putt on the challenging par four eighth hole. His only blemishes came on holes nine and 15.
“There are some difficult par three and par fours on this golf course. You need long irons into the green and you need a lot of imagination here. I kept patient and I played great. I’m in a very good position heading into the weekend,” said Choi.
“I’m very happy to finish before the rain because it isn’t easy to play with the rain in your face. I guess sometimes you get lucky in the draw,” smiled the Korean, who finished tied 34th at the Masters Tournament last week.
