April 26: Read what players have to say after the third round of the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters on Saturday.
CAMERON SMITH (AUS) – THIRD ROUND 67 (-5), TOTAL 202 (-14)
I started off a bit slow. The eagle on the ninth kept the birdies coming. That was the highlight of the day. I holed a pretty long putt. I’m feeling good, pretty ecstatic right now. I am actually leading in a professional tournament. It’s actually my first time!
It’s been pretty hot out there. I’m just trying to keep the food and water up. It has been great three rounds so far. I’ll keep to the same game plan tomorrow and just to hit as many fairways and greens as I can and see if I can continue to putt well.
This is my second event on the Asian Tour. Before turning professional last year, I won the Australian Amateur in 2013. My favourite golfer is Adam Scott. He is someone whom I really look up to in golf.
ANIRBAN LAHIRI (IND) – THIRD ROUND 64 (-8), TOTAL 203 (-13)
It was a good round today. It was a relief for me to actually play the kind of round that I did back home at the Delhi Golf Club. I’ve been playing very well and it’s nice to finally get to see it reflecting on the leaderboard. I’ve been looking for some momentum all week and I just haven’t had the chance to convert the half-chances. That was what happened on the 10th and 11th. I made a putt outside of six feet for a change so that always helps. It is very important for me to get off to a good start in the season. I’m really focused on my world rankings as well. It will definitely do me a lot of good if I can win tomorrow. I’m just glad I have put myself in a good position going into the final round. I will give it a good shot tomorrow. I am obviously looking to break into the top 100 on the world rankings so I can get into the bigger events. I’m hitting the ball good. I don’t have to do anything different tomorrow. If I can just keep hitting the fairways and greens tomorrow like how I did today, that would help. I am confident with how I am playing right now.
RASHID KHAN (IND) – THIRD ROUND 64 (-8), TOTAL 204 (-12)
I didn’t really expect to post such a good score today as I’ve been struggling with the fast greens here.  But I managed to hole putts today and got comfortable with the greens as I’ve been practising on the putting green. This is  my third tournament on the Asian Tour and it really gives you a good boost when you’ve won a tournament. Everything looks easy after that win but you still have to score well to win a tournament. The weather suspension didn’t really get to me as I came back to close with a birdie.
KIRADECH APHIBARNRAT (THA) – THIRD ROUND 65 (-7), TOTAL 205 (-11)
I hit my driver very well for the first three rounds, especially today. I managed to hole a lot of putts too. My iron-play was not too sharp but I still manage to hit it close to about 15 feet. You have to hit as many fairways as you can to play well here. You need to give yourself a lot of opportunities. The greens are quite firm this week. If you hit from the rough, there is no chance for you to stop the ball. If you keep it on the fairways, you will have a chance to hit a lot score. I’ll stick to the same game plan tomorrow and try to focus on my swing, which I have been working on for the past three weeks. I hope to play my best game and get the job done tomorrow.
GEORGE GANDRANATA (INA) – THIRD ROUND 75 (+), TOTAL 216 (EVEN PAR)
I didn’t do as well as I wanted to. My putting was not good at all. The greens were faster and I can’t really judge the speed well. My iron shots were not as good as yesterday. Nevetheless, I still have 18 more holes to play so hopefully I can get back tomorrow.
I know I am the only Indonesian who made the cut but I will try not to think too much and get stressed about that. Golf is golf. I think the most important thing is to stay focused and concentrate on playing one shot at a time. I am pretty sure we will get to see more Indonesians making the cut in future. We have a new Tour so I am confident the standard of golf in Indonesia will continue to grow.
My first two rounds were really good. Today was not as well as I wanted it to be but overall, I enjoyed the experience playing in this big event. I got a lot of support from the home crowd which is really helpful. I was having a tough time today but they still cheer me up. I really had a good time this week. Hopefully I can end the week off with a better result tomorrow.
