#DiamondCup Rd 3 - What They Said

Osaka, Japan, September 24: Read what players have to say following the penultimate round of the Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup on Saturday.

Phachara KHONGWATMAI (THA) – Third Round 69 (-1), Total 202 (-8)

My iron-play was not as good today. The rest was good. I wasn’t thinking much out there actually. I was just playing my own game. It is a challenge against myself, not other players. I was focusing on shooting an under-par round today.

I made a 10-footer for birdie on fourth. That was my longest putt and probably my best hole today. My short game was really good. I chipped well too. I only looked at the leaderboard when I came up to the 18th green. I wasn’t feeling nervous also. Nothing much was going through my mind really.

If I win tomorrow, it’s good for me. But if I don’t, it’s alright. It has been a great experience for me so far. My dad is here with me this week. He never really say anything. He just told me to play my best and it is alright if I never win so no stress for me tomorrow.

I definitely want to play my best game tomorrow but I won’t have any expectations on the results. I won’t be disappointed or sad if I didn’t win too. I am playing on a sponsors’ invite this week. I didn’t expect myself to play into contention. I am already very happy with how I played so far.

It was pretty challenging for me out there. I keep hitting close to the bunkers and near the water hazards. I could have easily shot over-par with my iron-play today. But I managed to hang in there. I will just keep doing the same things tomorrow. Nothing changes.

Ippei KOIKE (JPN) – Third Round 69 (-1), Total 203 (-7)

I played really well today but I just couldn’t make putts. I missed about five to six birdie chances. I am happy to finish with a birdie on the last. I was only checking the leaderboard on the last few holes. The pin positions were difficult today so I was expecting more people to be above me. The golf course was playing difficult, so I know I have to be patient. I will try to play like how I did today for tomorrow. If I can avoid making bogeys, I should be in good position.

Thitiphun CHUAYPRAKONG (THA) – Third Round 71 (+1), Total 206 (-4)

I was hoping to play with Phachara in the final round tomorrow actually but unfortunately I didn’t play well coming down the stretch. The right ankle still hurts but I try not to think about it. I played some good golf in the middle of the round. I played well before making the double-bogey on 16 and the bogey on 17. Only two holes were not good today.

I am happy to keep myself in the mix. It’s great to see Phachara leading and playing so well. It motivates me to play well too. Winning in Bangladesh has boosted my career a lot. I gained a lot of confidence from there and I know I have the capabilities to win tournaments now.

It has been a great year so far, especially getting to make my Major debut at the U.S. Open earlier. It will be even sweeter if I can finish with a good result tomorrow.
