Four Spots Up For Grabs For Maybank Malaysian Open

Kuala Lumpur, February 21: Leading to the much-anticipated Maybank Malaysian Open 2013 which is set to take place on March 21 to 24 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), coveted slots for Malaysian professional golfers to be part of the prestigious event will be up for grabs on February 26 and 27 at the Maybank Malaysian Open – National Qualifier event.
This year, the desirable spots are made more valuable with only four slots to be won through the two-day qualifying round.
Four of Malaysia’s best from the Professional Golf Association of Malaysia (PGAM) Order of Merit namely Nicholas Fung, Sukree Othman, R. Nachimuthu and Airil Rizman have been granted automatic entry to the Maybank Malaysian Open 2013.
Notable golfer Danny Chia, who is a Maybank Golf Ambassador, has again gained automatic entry to the Maybank Malaysian Open based on his impressive Asian Tour Order of Merit. Other names that have been given direct entry under Maybank’s nominates are Maybank Golf Ambassador Shaaban Hussin, 2012 Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) - Maybank Tour Players Champion Akhmal Tarmizee and GlobalOne’s nominated golfers Md Rashid Ismail, S. Murthy, S. Sivachandhran, Azman Basharuddin and Kenneth De Silva.
All those granted automatic entry are the Top 12 of the Professional Golf Association of Malaysia (PGAM) Order of Merit. In addition to the slots for professional golfers, six slots will be granted to amateurs from the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) National Team which will be announced at a later date.

This year’s Maybank Malaysian Open promises to be an even bigger and better event with four confirmed Star Players namely Luke Donald, Charl Schwartzel, Matteo Manassero and Padraig Harrington plus the lucrative tax-free prize purse of USD2.75 million, an increase of USD250,000 from last year.
The Maybank Malaysian Open is the first National Open in Asia to be co-sanctioned by both the European and Asian Tours in 1999 and is part of the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit and the European Tour’s Race to Dubai.
