Perth, Australia, February 24: Malaysia’s Nicholas Fung is determined to make his maiden appearance in Australia a memorable one when he takes his place among the strong field gathered at the ISPS Handa Perth International which starts on Thursday.
The Malaysian arrived in Perth, brimming with confidence following his tied-24th finish on home soil last week and hopes to make his mark again when the A$1.75 million event gets underway.
“This is my first visit to Perth and I want to make it a week to remember. I played well at home and that confidence has certainly carried over to this week,” said Fung.
Fung got a taste of the action at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club during his early practice round and believes he will benefit greatly from his appointment of a local caddy this week.
“I got a caddy who has the local knowledge and that will help. This course is not that long and it would certainly be advantageous if I get to start off early before the wind starts to blow,” said Fung.
No fewer than 20 Asian Tour champions will tee up at the ISPS Handa Perth International which also welcomes the return of the Tour’s best players to Australia after a seven-year absence. Malaysia’s other hopeful, Danny Chia will also feature in the 156-man field.
The ISPS Handa Perth International is the only golf tournament in Australia to be tri-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour and will feature over 20 tournament winners from the Asian Tour.
Major winner Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa will also headline the event alongside the stars from Europe including Italy’s Matteo Manassero and France’s Victor Dubuisson.
Tickets for the Perth International start from $22 and are available now at www.perthinternational.com or directly at Ticketmaster. Children under 16 will gain free entry with a paying adult ticket holder.
