Singapore, December 12: Thailand’s Sattaya Supupramai is ready to take on the region’s top players in 2015 after regaining his playing rights on the Asian Tour following a successful campaign on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) this season.
The 31-year-old Thai compiled a season’s haul of US$46,192 to finish fourth on the 2014 ADT Order of Merit which has recently concluded.
After securing his breakthrough ADT victory at the ICTSI Mount Malarayat Classic last July, Sattaya went on to add two more victories to his record this season where he chalked up four other top-10s.
Sattaya failed to retain his Asian Tour card in 2013 but he proved his worth again as he was not only successful on the ADT this season, but also on the region’s premier Tour where he claimed two top-10s to sit in 54th position on the merit rankings with a current haul of US$61,278.
The ADT rewards the top five players on the 2014 Order of Merit with playing rights on the Asian Tour in 2015.
Should Sattaya secures his playing rights through finishing inside top-60 on the final Asian Tour rankings, he will free up the Asian Tour card which he obtained through the ADT.
Malaysia’s Arie Irawan, who sits in sixth-place on the ADT Merit rankings, will be the next best player to replace Sattaya and qualify for the Asian Tour card.
Since its inauguration in 2010, the ADT has grown from five events in the first year to 21 tournaments in 2014. The ADT has announced a provisional 2015 schedule of a minimum 17 tournaments with several more to be announced in due course.
