Hua Hin, Thailand, January 30: Simon Griffiths of England stretched his lead by a commanding nine shots after shooting a six-under-par 66 in the second round of the Qualifying School First Stage Section A on Thursday.
The Englishman, who is fighting to regain playing rights on the region’s premier Tour after plying his trade in Asia from 2006 to 2012, totalled 13-under-par 131 to put himself in prime position to qualify for the all-important Final Stage in a fortnight where the top-40 and ties will earn Asian Tour cards.
Australia’s Mitchell Brown battled to a 66 for second place while Indian amateur Karan Taunk was a further shot back in third on 141 at the Royal Thai Army Sports Center.
At the Imperial Lakeview Golf Club, Australia’s Matt Jager (67), Japan’s Tatsuya Tanioka (65) and Thai duo Pijit Petchkasem (68) and Settee Prakongvech (67) shared the lead on seven-under-par  137.
