September 21: Scottish legend Colin Montgomerie believes the growth of professional golf lies in the Asia.
The eight-time European number one believes that Y.E. Yang's historic triumph at the 2009 PGA Championship where the Asian Tour honorary member defeated Tiger Woods was a catalyst for the game's development in the Far East.
"Golf in America and Europe, I think, has stagnated in the last 10 years. The growth of the game in the world of golf is in Asia. I am not saying this because I am here but that is the truth.
"We have an Asian winner of a Major, Y.E Yang, who beat Tiger in the PGA, is proof of that and we feel there is more to come. If it's more from India, great, if more from other parts of Asia, great," said Montgomerie during a visit to India over the weekend.
