Scotland, June 27: Australian Scott Hend and Korean sensation Jeunghun Wang have secured their places in The 145th Open which gets underway at Royal Troon next month.
The duo were among 11 players who earned their spots as the highest ranked non-exempt players on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) at the end of Week 26 (June 24-27).
Wang, placed second on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, will be making his Major debut while Hend, who just claimed his ninth Asian Tour title in Thailand two weeks ago, will tee up for his third attempt in the year's third Major.
“I am happy to earn a place at The Open. Earning my first appearance in a Major championship is really cool and I can't wait to get to Royal Troon. The year keeps getting better for me,” said the 20-year-old Wang, who completed impressive back-to-back victories in Morocco and Mauritius last month.
Other Asian Tour members who will feature at The Open include Thai trio Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Thongchai Jaidee and Phachara Khongwatmai, Korea’s K.T. Kim, Japan’s Yuta Ikeda, South African Ernie Els and reigning Order of Meirt champion Anirban Lahiri of India.
The 145th Open will take place from July 14 to 17.
