August 6: Scott Hend of Australia fired the week’s lowest round of seven-under-par 63 to charge into contention at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Saturday.
The reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit champion produced a sparkling round highlighted by eight birdies to trail the leaders Thomas Pieters of Belgium and Zach Johnson of the United States by a single shot.
With a total of eight-under-par 202, Hend, a nine-time Asian Tour champion, moved up 10 spots to solo third.
“I holed some putts today. I've been scrambling well all week, and I managed to hit a few more fairways and actually holed some putts, so that was the big difference,” said Hend.
“This golf course can jump up and bite you pretty quick, and we don't know what the conditions are going to be like tomorrow anyway. I'm just happy to be where I am right now and we'll take stock tomorrow when we return to the golf course. I’ll just approach it the way we do any other tournament,” he added.
Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand slipped down the leaderboard to tied 49th place following a 76.
