Northern Ireland, July 9: Reigning Order of Merit champion Scott Hend of Australia fired a flawless eight-under-par 64 to move within four shots off the pace at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation on Saturday.
Hend, who started the round with an eight-shot deficit, highlighted his bogey-free card with one eagle and six birdies to trail co-leaders Daniel Im and John Rahm in tied-sixth place on 13-under-par 203 total at the Portstewart Golf Club in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
“It’s all good for tomorrow,” said Hend, a nine-time Asian Tour winner. “I knew I had advantage on 13, 14 and 15. I have played them at eight-under-par so far this week. It’s nice to know these holes are coming up but I still got to keep it in play.”
“I just try to get the ball in play to start off with, and if you can make a birdie or an eagle, so be it. The game’s getting better and better. I've got an immediate goal to get back to the Top-100 in the world for the PGA Championship coming up,” added the 43-year-old Hend.
American Paul Peterson slipped to tied-12th on 205 following a 71 while Wade Ormsby of Australia carded a second straight 70 to sit in tied-22nd place on 207.
Australian Sam Brazel battled to a 71 for tied-51st place while Soomin Lee of Korea settled a further shot back in tied-57th following a 73.
