Li shot into the global golfing spotlight in November 2015 as he tied for seventh at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, where the local hero played the final round with then-World No. 1 Jordan Spieth and secured the best-ever finish by a Chinese in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event.
This year, Li has already competed in Web.com Tour events in the USA, Brazil, Panama and Colombia, and played in PGA Tour events in Hawaii and Puerto Rico on invitations. Li, who is currently the highest-ranked Chinese player in 131st place on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), is in the running to qualify for the Olympics in Rio, where golf is returning for the first time since 1904.
The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open which is the only worldwide tri-sanctioned tournament endorsed by the European, Sunshine & Asian Tours will also see top players such as Scott Hend, Jeev Milkha Singh, Victor Dubuisson, Nicolas Colsaerts, George Coetzee and Jaco van Zyl participate in May.
