Manila, November 15: Philippines’ Charles Hong posted a two-under-par 70 to ensure another Filipino stays inside the top-10 after the second round of the US$750,000 Resorts World Manila Masters on Friday.
With Angelo Que grabbing a share of the lead with Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond and Canada’s Richard T. Lee, Hong gave the local galleries another reason to cheer as he compiled a two-day total of 136 to stay three shots back of the trio at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club.
The 25-year-old, who claimed his career’s maiden victory on the local tour last year, credited his experience of playing on the Asian Development Tour (ADT), which is the Tour’s secondary circuit for improving his game.
“I didn’t start well today. It was really windy out there but I managed to make two birdies on the back nine. A few hits and misses today but overall, it was not too bad. I think my experience of playing on the Asian Development Tour this year has helped me a lot in my game,” said Hong.
Hong has been playing regularly on the ADT where he now made five out of six cuts.
He is hoping to take his game to another level by playing well on the region’s premier Tour, which is celebrating its milestone 10th season in 2013.
“It has always been my target play on the Asian Tour. I’ve tried the Qualifying School for two years already. This is only my third event on the main Tour so far and I’m glad that to be playing well! I will be trying for the Qualifying School again next year. Hopefully I can get my Tour card for 2014,” added Hong.
Antonio Lascuna, Miguel Tabuena and Anthony Fernando meanwhile settled for tied 31st place on matching 139s after returning with rounds of 72, 69 and 70 respectively.
Ends.
