In the spotlight: Baek Seuk-hyun

July 2: As the Asian Tour season takes a mid-year break, we take stock of what has happened on the region’s premier Tour so far and look at the stars of the game expected to light up the scene again when the season gets underway again in September.
This week, we check out Korea’s Baek Seuk-hyung.
His season so far: Coming off the back of a successful 2013 season where he finished ninth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit courtesy of eight top-10s, expectations remain high for the Thai-based Korean to get his maiden breakthrough on the Asian Tour.
He did not disappoint in the first half of the season, surprising even himself when he finished tied-second behind India’s Anirban Lahiri at the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters in April.
Having suffered an elbow prior to the start of his Indonesian campaign, Baek surpassed all expectations when he missed out on a grandstand finish by a mere shot.
What can we expect from Baek: A fifth-place finish at the Queen’s Cup just before the start of the break will give the Korean enough conviction that he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level as it was no easy feat challenging the likes of regional heavyweights such as Thaworn Wiratchant, Siddikur Rahman. It would be a good time to take advantage of the break, fine-tune his game and return to the tee with a bang.
