July 30: As the Asian Tour season hits the halfway mark, we take stock of what has happened thus far and highlight some of the potential stars who are expected to shine when the season gets underway again in September.
This week, we check out Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh and review his results for the season so far.
His season so far:  Siddikur got off to a great start when he finished second at the season-opening SAIL-SBI Open in India.
He went on to finish tied-18th at the Solaire Open in the Philippines and tied-57th at the Maybank Malaysian Open before missing consecutive halfway cuts at the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters and The Championship at Laguna National in Singapore.
Despite his sudden dip in form, Siddikur bounced back strongly by finishing tied-second and tied-third respectively at the ICTSI Philippine Open and Queen’s Cup before the Asian Tour season went into a break.
Siddikur was also part of Team Asia at the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM earlier in March where Team Asia eventually tied with Team Europe 10-10.
Siddikur is currently ranked ninth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit with a season’s haul of US$79,879.
What can we expect from Siddikur: Having claimed three top-three finishes this season, Siddikur is definitely one of the players to look out for when the season resumes next month.
Despite incurring a back injury while doing his fitness routines at the gymnasium recently, Siddikur is determined to hit the recovery trail again. The injury has caused him to back out from the European Tour’s M2M Russia Open last week. Although it was not a major injury, his physio-therapist has advised him to rest for at least 15 days.
While we hope for Siddikur’s speedy recovery, we should not underestimate his potential as he is expected tocome back even stronger.
