Jakarta, October 25: Thirty Indonesian golfers, including 10 amateurs, will be competing at the 2013 Indonesia Open, one of the highlights on the Asian Tour, scheduled from November 28 to December 1 at the Pantai Indah Kapuk course at Damai Indah Golf.
With golf making its return on the Olympic programme at Rio 2016, work has already begun to get Indonesia’s top local talents ready so they can be in tip-top condition to challenge for the coveted gold medal in Brazil.
The Indonesia Open, over the past 40 years, has played a vital role in the development of the country’s junior, amateur and professional players. The National Championship has offered many a chance for these home grown talents to compete against and learn from some of the best golfers in the world.
Backing the vision of the Championship organisers is a long list of sponsors, made up of some of the most recognisable domestic and international brands that share the same vision – to contribute to the development of golf in Indonesia.
The championship welcomes BANK BRI as Platinum Sponsor and Official Bank, and is further supported by Total E&P Indonesie, Indofood, JS Luwansa, Bintang, Subway, Danone, Srixon and Maui Jim.
BANK BRI is delighted that the bank is a partner of the Indonesia Open: “BANK BRI and Indonesia Open are two of Indonesia’s most iconic brands and it makes perfect sense for us to get involved in the Championship and support our athletes whose dream it is to win an Olympic gold. We look forward to working with the organisers to ensure Indonesia Open continues to be a success.”
Total E&P Indonesie and PT. Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk, a Gold Sponsor and Official Partner of the tournament respectively, are proud to be involved with an event that has so much history and heritage.
Reda Gaudiamo, Corporate Communication Manager of TOTAL E&P INDONESIE commented, “Total E&P Indonesie opened its doors for business in 1968, and over the past four decades, we have proudly served the people of Indonesia. In a similar way to the Indonesia Open, we are firmly in the hearts of the local people and we cannot think of a better event to support than this prestigious championship.”
“Golf is a sport that has great potential in Indonesia, and its domestic interest will be further boosted by the prospect of Olympic medals
less than three years from now. A good nutrition is essential to support golf athlete performance and keep them healthy. Therefore we participate in this sponsorship as the Indonesia Open will inspire our youth golfers to excel into the International level”, Franciscus Welirang, Director of PT. INDOFOOD SUKSES MAKMUR TBK added.
Working with these sponsors to continue the success story of the Indonesia Open are Persatuan Golf Indonesia (PGI), Asian Tour and IMPL, which signed a three-year agreement in December 2012 to hold the tournament from 2013 onwards with the main objectives to elevate the stature of the Indonesia Open, assist in the development of junior golf and promote Indonesia golf in view of the sport making a return to the Olympics in 2016.
The 2013 Indonesia Open will host an all-star cast wirh local hero Rory Hie already confirmed. He will be joined by two-time Major champion Retief Goosen, three-time Tour winner Pablo Larrazabal and 2009 Indonesia Open winner Thongchai Jaidee.
Established in 1974, the US$750,000 event boasts of a roll of honour that includes prominent names such as the late American Payne Stewart, Frank Nobilo of New Zealand, Filipino legend Frankie Minoza, Australia’s Craig Parry, Chinese Taipei’s Lu Chien-soon, Myanmar’s Mya Aye and Thai duo Thongchai Jaidee and Thaworn Wiratchant, who are both Asian Tour Order of Merit champions.
