Jazz Blog: Selangor will be a test

Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia, September 17: Thai teenager Jazz Janewattananond hopes to reap the fruit of his labour at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters which starts on Thursday. Since April, he has worked with a new coach and has also embarked on a fitness regime during the summer months which he hopes will turn him into an Asian Tour winner soon. This is his blog from Seri Selangor Golf Club.

The Seri Selangor Golf Club is different than last year which was playing very firm. I had a practice round yesterday and the course is a bit softer. The greens are not as firm and the course condition is pretty good. I enjoy coming over here to compete. You need to hit it straight on this course which I’m a pretty straight driver of the ball.
I missed the Omega European Masters in Switzerland two weeks ago because of my visa problem. It was a tough lesson for me. I had applied for an Austrian visa to attend the European Tour Qualifying School and I couldn’t get my passport back in time from the Austrian embassy to apply for a Swiss visa. It was tough to miss out on Switzerland.
However, Austria was good as I managed to get past stage one. The experience was also good as it was cold and rainy which made it harder for me to compete.
We’re now going into a long run of events on the Asian Tour and I’ll try to play solid every week. There are many good tournaments coming up and I’m looking forward to playing well in them.
I’ve made some swing changes and I’ve also worked on my fitness to try to improve my game. These next tournaments would be a test for me to see if doing these has helped with my game.
I started working with Bernd Wiesberger’s coach who is based in Jakarta since the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters in April and we’ve been trying to get my swing more stable. I also started working with a Korean fitness coach in Bangkok and we’ve been working together for the past six weeks.
I wanted to be fitter to play four rounds of golf in consecutive weeks since we’re now entering our busiest time of the year. I feel better now.  Previously, my third and fourth rounds were not as good as the first and second rounds. With so many tournaments coming up, I hope to play well in all four rounds and I think being fitter will help.
I’m always trying to win a tournament on the Asian Tour. I feel like I’m improving in my game, I’m still young and I still have a lot to learn. If I win, it’s going to be a bonus for me.  I think I’ve also grown better mentally. I know how to handle myself more on the golf course and I hope it will be good for my game.
